What's the difference between a mixtape and a free album?

Multiple things..
For instance a mixtape could be comprised of beats that you dont own or weren't intended for your use.
Such a thing could never be considered a true album.
Mixtapes often feature DJ guest appearances..never on albums to my knowledge.

These are just technicalities but albums also more often than not have a strategic approach(overall theme or premise, etc)
Whereas a mix tape can be much more up in the air, completely random even.

I mean, I guess I meant more specific to this album. Your initial post seemed really excited that this was an album instead of a mixtape. And while those things you mentiones can be true, in this day, most mixtapes are just as much albums as albums. I was more interested in why it made a difference for this album to be a "free album" instead of a mixtape.

Ohhh.
Honestly I just thought that was some dope shit to do.
I personally think dude is inivative AF so I've peeped a few interviews.
Not verbatim but he said something along the lines of , "I won't charge my fans until I drop something I deem worthy of being purchased."
..That's literally not what he said but exactly what he meant, swear to God.
But yeah, free album in my mind translates to a handcrafted body of work up for grabs.
You dig?
