Newbs aren't easily accepted here and its a tight-knit culture. A lot of the formalities of structures for flowing from parts of sentences have some what of a limitation as far as how to write cleanly and neatly. I have not mastered any of that. Just incorporate your style, and read as much of the better battles & league writings as you can (I prefer the AOWL as it is not truly a battle match as if to emcee's were dissing each other).

If anything, the OM has no formalities... just don't post too often (once a week is good, or often enough to keep one of your posts in the 1st page) with some shit you worked on.
