It was all chatrooms first, after that you're looking at places like Davey D's and Sethros and Tha Landz and Jamies Crackhouse and the ICU board or Lyrical Meltdown.

It's even older than that, there's always been hiphop heads in the music rooms of chatrooms and then obviously if you got two guys that could battle - it would happen in the chat.

Any of you remember Napster having a chatroom? That shit was notoriously good at one point for battles. I used to jump on yahoo messenger and type out mad shit for hours before I found these forums.

I used to battle in yahoo chatrooms. I miss those days.

See because I was just a young punk trying to get that master materia in ff7 while listening to nas and outkast. Browser window with the gamefaqs rap board. High karma account, you know me. They had the 'Thunder dome' rap battle royale. Imagine the vest text verses but the opposite. I was solid, top five obviously. AP English checking in. Anyways, after a few thunderdomes the mods started closing them. Bullshit, commie mods. Still like that there. Me and the core, elite battlers took it as an affront. So we went to a dead board, a board for a game no one posts on. BattleZone for some old ass system. There me, Brass Eagle, Zhou Yu, and Pharoahe had major beef. Cornbread was the best by far though. Soon the mods found us again. So we created our own VB. The BattleZone. The legendary BattleZone.

don't tell me it was hitemup.com. I used to love that site when I first started getting into rap in like 98ish.

I was all about the AOL chat rooms, but then the old lady started hitting me with those parental controls cuz I was like 11 years old. Then I found HHU and HHH and from there PR.

I was genuinely surprised that text still existed when I came back to it after a 5 year hiatus in 2010. That's when RB was dope to me (though everyone said the golden age had already passed). Crazy that it has the past that it does, pretty amazing how so many people from around the world have connected through the same weird hobby.

I was tight with GRUESOME and E for a bit. I was an original administrator at FiendWorld, actually. Then E just got too fucking crazy for me.

Me and E were real cool. Co owned a site together called beatsrhymeslife. It was the shit for a good year then E went crazy and shut it down.

E was kind of crazy even for the textcee world. So many guns.

Yea. Think lama left for rapmusic to run their league and the battlers followed him.

The battle scene in 2004-06 was like a bunch of fucking mercenaries. People would get "poached" to run leagues at other sites or join leagues at other sites. You bragged when one of "your own" won a title somewhere else.

That was a lot of fun as a teenager.
