its confused to have been an acronym for with out papers, with out passport, or works on pavement. the terms regarded the influx of Europeans immigrating to America in the early 1900's that were working without legal documentation.

in reality the phrase originates from the Italian word Guappo which translates more to something like clever or flashy

This brings up an interesting thought. I’m Italian also, and if someone called me a
WOP, I would legit not give two fucks. And the reason is because there’s no real meaning to it today. Italians aren’t being discriminated against when applying for jobs, not treated differently by other white people, and not even looked at as different than whites. So, there’s nothing behind it. The n word...? It’s a different beast.
