I think he warmed to them a little with those Neighborhood videos I posted in the collab topic.

Certain 03-06-2014 08:08 PM

Like, what the fuck is "Normal Person"? Why are you trying New Wave, Arcade Fire? You're not good at New Wave, Arcade Fire.

This is not worth not letting Régine have a song.

YDK 03-06-2014 08:52 PM

@Certain you never answered me bout if there are check in due dates

Certain 03-06-2014 08:55 PM

There are not.

Neighborhood the band? I like them :)

PancakeBrah 03-06-2014 09:19 PM

Never heard of them. I was referring to the Neighborhood songs on Funeral.

Mike Wrecka 03-06-2014 09:25 PM

I signed in and saw that I had 4 mentions and felt really cool and popular for a second

then I saw that they were all spam mentions by PancakeBrah to vote on a topical match

I instantly felt disapointed

PancakeBrah 03-06-2014 09:29 PM

And your reaction is to not vote. As a known topicalist and admin.

Maybe that explains why you're not the type of person who gets a lot of mentions?

Ponder that, Michael.

Mike Wrecka 03-06-2014 09:39 PM

I am currently ranked sixth in mentions

I believe it with all my heart

you have convinced me

I will vote!

Certain 03-06-2014 09:41 PM

I'm poised to claim all of the top spots by season's end.

Just Write 03-06-2014 09:51 PM

I dont really like diode or fresh but diodes verse was better. Im just too lazy (high) to make it into a vote yet.

How's the verse coming? After three nights of thinking of a topic I finally have a route to take. Started the verse tonight, will probably save finishing it for tomorrow.

As a sign of respect I've rejected like 6 ideas thinking they weren't good enough to win against you.

Just Write 03-06-2014 10:11 PM

Lol im right there with you man. Im even trying to switch my style up because I dont think my regular one is good enough. I found a directiin as well. Im stressed on this battle bro
@El Pancake

PancakeBrah 03-06-2014 10:15 PM

Ha. Stressed is a good word to use here. Insofar I allow myself to be stressed about a topical on this website, I'm there as well. Your verse last week made me want to hunker down and try like I'm going against the top tier, which you're close to, topical wise. Should be the battle of the week favorite.

I will objectively feed a piece of anyone who votes in that battle.

Thanks for reading either way, even if you don't vote.

PancakeBrah 03-06-2014 10:52 PM

lol diode campaigning hard right now

you won. it will all bear out in the end. topical forces will assemble.

Only heard like 3-4 tracks from this dude's instrumental in all honesty. But shit is dope thus far.

Dpat - In Bloom

I already wrote two verses to this shit. Neither finished yet, but one will be recorded for sure.

Certain 03-06-2014 11:21 PM

@Diode, I'll vote, but instead of feeding something I write, I'd prefer you send a photo of your wife's feet to Strikta via Western Union.

hmmmmm....She's good enough to live? Not sure how to answer this because we've cured the illness' (Plural) to where they can't kill her and she can't give anyone else that cough. But I got the Cough and shit sucks first off, but it really will only go away with time and she just can't breathe at points in the day. Adult lungs are strong enough to weather the storm, but it hurts me when it acts up, I can only imagine her. I'm sure she still has pneumonia but only cuz she coughs so much and when she gasps the phlegm (weirdest spelling of any single word) is sucked back in the lungs.

Life goes on, and that's the ticket so...

Jazzy Belle is the best song OutKast ever made. Or at least the best completely 'rap' song they ever made. Some of their concept songs have an argument.

I don't think Stankonia is all that great. Very good, the singles are awesome, but I'd take Southernplaya, ATLiens, and Aquemini over it every day.

oats 03-07-2014 12:25 AM

Freddie Mercury is easily the greatest frontman of all time imo. can't ask for a greater all-around talent

Certain 03-07-2014 12:26 AM

I listened to Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik today, actually. It's by far the most conservative OutKast album, which wouldn't be a big deal except that Big Boi was significantly worse than Dre at that time. Big Boi never actually has been as good as Andre 3000, but back then, the gap was much wider.

And "Jazzy Belle" wouldn't even rank in my top three songs on ATLiens. I love the title track, "Elevators (Me & You)" and "Wheelz of Steel" most. But to each, his own.

dead man 03-07-2014 12:26 AM

yes @ jazzy belle. house and doctor were the games we used to play.....

im not the biggest outkast fan but that is one of my top 10 songs of all times.

wut?

wuuuuutt?

andre's first few lines alone. fuck. not to mention the short build up to those lines. god damn.

And Mainstream and 13th Floor are the only responsible checks to the Jazzy Belle move.

Certain it's like I don't even know you anymore.

Certain 03-07-2014 12:33 AM

Actually, "Babylon" might be the best song on the album lyrically.

Quote:

I came into this world high as a bird
From second hand cocaine powder
I know it sounds absurd
I never tooted but its in my veins
While the rest of the country bungies off bridges
Without no snap back
And bitches they say they need that
To shake they fannies in the ass clubs
They go the other route
Turn each other out
Burn each other out
Where a bona fide nigga like me
Can't even get no back rub these days
Ain't that bleak on they part
But let me hold it down, cause they shut you down
When you speak from your heart
Now that's hard
While we ranting and raving bout gats
Nigga, they made them gats
They got some shit that'll blow out our backs
From where they stay at
Quote:

I'm fascinated by the way yo
Nipples peak at me through yo blouse
Freaky me, freaky you
Can't help but be aroused
'Scuse me, Lord lustful thinking
But that's the way we was brought up
Sneaking to watch Playboy at night
We all must be caught up in worldly ways
Chemistry between boys and girls
Is a lot like when we went to the woods
And laid with the squirrels
During P.E., we'd be
Exploring each others privates
Hunching with all our clothes on
Until we felt excited then, aaaah
Oh now its on from here on out
Put yo hands in the atmosphere
If you know what I'm talking bout
Now if too harsh then walk on out
And I'll see you on the next song
They call it horny
Because its devilish
Now see we dead wrong

PancakeBrah 03-07-2014 12:38 AM

Certain you're the Zygote of musical tastes.

I can't deal with this right now.

Jazzy Belle has this intangible quality. A real soul, as much as I hate to use that term.

ATLiens was that album for me, though. I can't be argued off it.

Certain 03-07-2014 12:46 AM

I see a really strong parallel between OutKast and Radiohead, probably my favorite groups of their era.

Pablo Honey : Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
The album that started it all but sounds a bit unadventurous, sloppy and unrefined in retrospect and mostly is remembered for one huge hit that some fans of the group deride.

The Bends : ATLiens
A pretty much perfect album end to end that definitely foreshadowed the risks coming without actually diving headfirst into them.

OK Computer : Aquemini
Everything gets thrown out onto the table, and even though it's not as perfect and polished as the previous one, the exploration makes every note fascinating.

Kid A : Stankonia
The album that takes the previous one and furthers those steps all the way off the cliff, making for a fascinating but at times ungrounded listen.

Amnesiac : The Love Below
Everything that made the previous album so weird is pushed all the way to the fore, and the last remnants of the original sound are kicked out entirely.

Hail to the Thief : Speakerboxxx
A return of sorts to the 1990s core, with greater roots in established music while not at all skimping on the experimentation, but somewhat underrated because it no longer feels like genius.

oats 03-07-2014 12:48 AM

radiohead is the quintessential example of a band that was ruined for me by its fans.

Adonis 03-07-2014 12:50 AM

I like mine lumpy

PancakeBrah 03-07-2014 12:50 AM

Obviously those type of comparisons fall prey to the details. But the only real problem I have is Pablo=Southern. Pablo Honey isn't good. Creep is, very. But that may be revisionist. If Radiohead didn't find itself Creep may have become a very Save Tonight one-off. But that's beside the point. Southern is fucking great. Pablo is horribly uneven, possibly bad.

Also, Hail to the Chief=Speakerboxxx is off.

But I can see your point and as far as career arcs matching each other it's not that bad.

I kind of like the Hail to the Thief/Speakerboxxx comparison, but yes, Pablo Honey is very uneven and sloppy and sometimes shitty.

But there's a true hidden gem on it (though you have to get past the muddled first 20 seconds because it's Pablo Honey):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6OE6a07Aks

Of course, if they had that song on The Bends, it would have been cleaner and more inventive and better.

PancakeBrah 03-07-2014 12:55 AM

I'm particular to Hail to the Chief, honestly. Not including Amnesiac, I'd probably go

OKComputer > HttC > The Bends = Kid A >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pablo Honey
