It's all down to opinion and who you have actually posted with, but yeah from what I have seen online, there are a few people here who could claim to be among the best of the best.

The only real way to rate it is wins (tournaments, leagues, etc) and other accomplishments, though you do have to take into account the competition they faced.

The general consensus is good to a degree, but you can really only rate what you see, there are writers who stopped posting years ago who were amazing, and there are also writers who just recently started posting who i think probably don't get taken as seriously as they should because they are new, and we as humans have this awful tendency to overly glamorize the past.

There really isn't a huge difference between the level of talent a lot of people have, i could think of about 20 people who could make a claim to be number one.

I always have assumed there is a community of women text rappers that was hidden deep in the uncharted swamplands of Queen Latifah fan sites and MC Lyte homages that men simply had no idea about.

My theory: Topical writers are more likely to stay active than battlers. There are more styles to explore, more directions to go. If you get sick of writing in one style, you just switch. In battling, there are at most three or four styles that have dominated. Plus, when you run out of punchlines, you're done.
