That scene was pretty intense. But I think that moment says a lot more about how repressed the emotions that woman was feeling were than anything about Carey's acting ability.

Carey seemed like a guy who heard about method acting and was bored enough with fame to try it. The method was the performance. That movie is pretty dogshit, and his performance is a bit too precious. He went full Shia LeBouf, although hes a lot more talented obviously. He probably had a lot more fun behind the scenes being a dick than he did when the cameras were on. That documentary was great though.

He went into the role weird as fuck. I think in the beginning everyone who knew Kaufman was like wtf, but then there’s video of them saying how much like Andy it was... but that’s not the same as having an emotional closure discussion with his sister. I’m betting Carrey in that moment probably felt he’d bitten off more than he could chew, but just swallowed that shit like a champ.
